Birth Photos: I couldn’t think of anything worse
Is exactly what I’d have said if you asked me during my first pregnancy. It was a thought I wouldn’t have entertained. For my second pregnancy I didn’t even think to ask, but I did capture an awesome video of the midwife talking through my placenta 🥴
I can’t share how much I massively regret not having photos and videos. Not for anyone else to watch or see, just for me. I’ve replayed in my mind and talked about their births at every opportunity I get.
What’s lovely about moments captured during birth is seeing all the moments in the room that you missed or might forget. It could be a reassuring hand from the midwife on your partners back, the focus on your face as you breathe through another surge, laughing or relief between the waves, a spilt drink or the panic on the face of the person who knocked it over 🤦🏼♀️ depending on how you feel about your birth after you may also realise there were more moments of light than you realise. One day those images might be needed to remind you how bloody strong you can be 💪🏼
I encourage families to consider a professional photographer or videographer to capture these beautiful moments to have them as part of your story.
As a doula I’m happy to capture some moments for you myself, memories to treasure 📸
If you’re a #birthphotographer in East Surrey please get one touch so I can share details with my families who are interested.
