Why employ a Birth Doula?

Because a baby will only be born once. Because you matter. Because your birth experience matters. Your birth experience will stay with you forever, this is your story. But if you need any more of a reason…..

There is evidence to show that having a doula can mean:

  • Reduced risk of Caesarean birth † *

  • Reduced risk of instrumental birth † *

  • Reduced need for painkillers or epidural during birth † *

  • Reduced rate of induction of labour † *

  • Shorter labour †

  • Increased parental satisfaction with the birth experience †

  • Increased likelihood of initiating breastfeeding *

  • Increased likelihood of successfully establishing breastfeeding & breastfeeding at 6 weeks *

  • Lower incidence of depressive symptomatology †

  • Improve equity and provide culturally responsive care #

My promise to you

My continuous presence brings warmth, humour and calm reassurance to you and your partner.

I continually invest in training for myself, most recently Biomechanics for birth, an approach that can resolve most cases of labour dystocia (“failure to progress”/”stalled birth”).

Knowledge and understanding of the physiology of birth.

Unquestioning trust in your decisions and your body.

Suggestions of alternative comfortable positions.

Protection of your space, advocacy, asking for time and space when being asked to make decisions.

Monitoring of the environment; lighting, temperature, sounds, smells.

Ensure you remain hydrated, nourished and rested between surges.

Physical support, such as massage and hip squeezes.

Prioritising your birth preferences.

Remaining with you or your baby in the hours after birth.

Time to get to know you and your hopes for your birth during pregnancy.

and Sweets- I’ve nearly always got sweets in my bag and I’m happy to share. Probably Jelly Babies.

What is a Doula?

As a doula, I offer support to you and your family throughout pregnancy, labour, birth, and postpartum. While I'm not medically trained, I bring experience and knowledge, providing continuous care to the birthing person. I collaborate with your family and healthcare providers, offering practical, emotional, and informational support. Instead of giving advice, I help you make informed decisions by providing balanced, evidence-based information.

My care isn't restricted by policies and paperwork. I have no agenda to steer you away from your chosen path. I won't switch shifts halfway through your birth—I'm there for you, continuously, holding your hand and supporting you throughout. We can build a trusting relationship during your pregnancy so you can count on me for physical, informational, and emotional support during labour and birth. Together, we navigate any surprises or challenges that come up during your pregnancy and labour. You don't have to wait until you're experiencing "3 contractions in 10 minutes" for me to be by your side.

Back up Birth Partner

If you’re concerned that your partner or doula might not be available for your birth I can provide back up cover for those days. Dependent on dates given and availability.

I am also open to shared care opportunities with other doulas. Please send an email to discuss further.
